چکیده

This paper studies the interaction between barriers to firm entry and distortions allocative efficiency in a standard model of dynamics. We derive strategy infer based on cross-country differences size distribution idiosyncratic distortions. The inferred resemble regulation-based indicators advanced economies but are substantially higher middle- low-income countries. Regulation-based cannot account for average underestimate aggregate productivity gains associated with their removal by up 8 percent average. (JEL D21, D24, H25, L11, L60)

The Distribution of Firm Size

In this paper, we studies the distribution of firm size by using a model based on Sato’s paper in 1970, and proved the static distribution of firm size satisfies Pareto distribution in its upper tail.

The exponential age distribution and the Pareto firm size distribution

Recent work drawing on data for large and small firms has shown a Pareto distribution of firm size. We mix a Gibrat-type growth process among incumbents with an exponential distribution of firm’s age, to obtain the empirical Pareto distribution. JEL codes: L20, L25

The Dynamics of Firm Size Distribution*

The shape and evolution of firm size distribution has been studied in industrial organization and labor economics. The standard hypothesis of Gibrat’s law of proportionate effect posits that the rate of firm growth is size-independent. We test Gibrat’s law using a new empirical methodology and considering the underinvestigated Brazilian case. Quantile regression is used to estimate the evolutio...

Firm Size, Innovation, and Market Share Instability: the Role of Negative Feedback and Idiosyncratic Events

The paper uses evolutionary economics and computer simulation techniques to explore structural and random determinants of industry market structure. The former is studied in the context of different Schumpetarian debates on the relationship between firm size and innovation (dynamic returns to scale), and the latter is studied in the context of studies that emphasize the role of idiosyncratic ev...
